On October 29, 2024, we were thrilled to host a group of 100 senior students from McKenzie High School at our Brain Autonomy and Resiliency (BAR) Lab. The visit provided an exciting opportunity for students to explore cutting-edge research and discover the interdisciplinary nature of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
The day was packed with insightful presentations, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities that showcased the innovative work happening in our lab. The seniors learned about the wide array of ongoing projects related to brain health, robotics, autonomous systems, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Game Development highlighting how these fields intersect with other scientific disciplines.
Along touring the BAR Lab, the students were given the chance to explore other departments in our UTM College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. They visited the Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, Biology, and Computer Science departments, where they engaged with faculty, researchers, and students who shared their work and answered questions about potential career paths in these exciting fields.
The event sparked curiosity and inspired the students to think about the limitless possibilities of a future in STEM. We were thrilled by the enthusiasm and questions the students posed, and we hope that this visit has planted the seed for future exploration and engagement in scientific research. We look forward to welcoming more students to our lab in the future and continuing to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators!
